Noted
singer Firoz Shai was remembered with songs and discussion at the auditorium of
National Music and Dance Centre on December 17. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy
and Firoz Shai Smriti Sangsad jointly organised the programme to observe the
12th death anniversary of the artiste.
Urging all concerned to preserve and promote Firoz Shai's songs, the discussants said, he was among the first singers who presented folk songs in a style that intrigued the contemporary pop music fans in Bangladesh. Music director Sheikh Sadi Khan and lyricist Moniruzzaman Monir were the discussants at the programme presided by poet Majnu Shah.
Faruk Bhuiyan and Saleha Parveen performed some of Firoz Shai's well-known songs including Iskul khuilachhe, Line chhara chole na railgari, Ek second-er nai bhorosha, and Dui diner ek visa diya.
Firoz Shai was born in 1952 in Neelphamari. While performing the song Ek second-er nai bhorosha at a Victory Day programme in 1995, the artiste had a stroke and passed away.
